Knowledge, like a good coffee, should be shared, so we established International Coffee Traders: primarily to provide roasters with direct access to our extensive network of green bean producers around the globe; but to also offer customers access to our years of experience in operating and marketing successful coffee roasting businesses.
Born in Argentina and with much of his childhood spent in Brazil, Moises was drawn into the world of coffee from a young age. A later move to Italy cemented what would become a life long attraction to the coffee industry, and in particular, the coffee trading process. Becoming a trader in Italy provided Moises with invaluable commercial experience, however with clear memories of his foundations in South America, he sought a new way of sourcing coffee, one that involved working directly with producers at origin and one that returned benefits to the local communities.
When he moved to Australia in 1997, Moises was commissioned by ARC to become their Australian representative. Having traded coffee in four different countries, and having established long standing relationships with producers across all coffee sourcing nations, Moises drew the attention of Phillip Di Bella, a rising star in the Australian coffee world with a focus on high quality, consistent coffee. Moises’ approach to coffee sourcing inspired Phillip to look differently at his own coffee sourcing methods. Moises introduced Phillip to the world of origins, the producers, and how the establishment of direct relationships with producers can benefit the coffee growing community and see improvement in the coffee quality.
In turn, Moises saw a future with a client who didn’t simply buy whatever he was offering as in a typical broker relationship. Here was a client who was asking him to go directly to the origin and source certain products, a client who recognized the value of having consistent access to premium green beans from all over the globe through direct producer relationships.
